Hallmarks

There have been Hallmarking Acts in the UK since 1300: a continuous series of legislation right up to the present day. Even the current 1973 Act is frequently revised: the addition for 2010 is palladium.

For the public’s protection, all precious metals sold in this country must be hallmarked by an independent Assay Office and have a minimum of three marks.
