A Victorian diamond, onyx, and seed Pearl mourning brooch.

 

A uniquely shaped antique brooch, set with a large piece of onyx. 

Above the onyx is a beautiful Art Nouveau golden floral motif.

The flower contains an old hand cut diamond at it's center which weighs approximately 0.10 carats.

Surrounding this is five pearls.

There are ten more pearls set in to the four golden leaves.

 

At the center of the reverse of the brooch is a glass window through which the keepsake of the dearly beloveds hair can be viewed. A secret known only to the wearer.

Also engraved on the reverse "Edward Elgin 21st Oct 1841 45."

 

The brooch measures 43 x 34 mm's.

Secured via the hinged post and clip retainer, with an additional gold safety chain.
