An antique Victorian Roman revival 15ct gold and diamond mourning brooch.

This brooch is Hallmarked 15ct gold with the rare Chester Assay Office mark, and has the date mark for 1897.

Claw set in the centre of the brooch are three old hand cut diamonds.

The estimated combined weight of these diamonds is 0.25 carats.

We have assessed the colour of the diamonds to be G/H, and the clarity to be SI2.

This period saw a revival of Roman style jewellery, and is more commonly named the Etruscan revival period.

This influence can be seen clearly in this brooch by observing two gold rosettes. One below the central diamond, and one above. Furthermore, spreading out from these rosette's are laurel wreath's which curve around the entire centre piece.

The reverse of the brooch still contains hair.

It is secured via a hinged gold pin and retainer. There is also an additional safety chain for additional security.

This lozenge shaped brooch measures 17 x 45 mm's.
